Plain-language definitions of the terms on our pack and this site.
Biotin
A B vitamin (vitamin B7). Dia-Care contains 2 mg per capsule.
Cellulose (HPMC) capsule
A capsule shell made from hydroxypropyl methylcellulose, a plant-derived cellulose, used for vegetarian capsules. Dia-Care uses an HPMC shell.
Chromium Picolinate
A form of the mineral chromium. Dia-Care contains 200 mcg per capsule (49.72% RDA).
Folic acid
A form of folate (vitamin B9). Dia-Care contains 100 mcg per capsule (56.66% RDA).
FSDU
Food for Special Dietary Use: a food category under Indian regulations for foods formulated to meet particular dietary requirements. Dia-Care is an FSDU.
FSSAI
The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India, the national food regulator. Licensed food businesses print their FSSAI licence number on the pack.
FSSC 22000
A recognised certification scheme for food safety management systems. Dia-Care's manufacturer is FSSC 22000 certified.
Hintonia latiflora
A botanical whose bark is traditionally used in Central America. Dia-Care's hero ingredient, at 100 mg per capsule.
ICMR
The Indian Council of Medical Research. Dia-Care's % RDA values are calculated on ICMR guidelines 2020.
IGT
Impaired Glucose Tolerance. One of the groups the Dia-Care pack is intended for.
INS number
International Numbering System for food additives, for example INS 460(i). Dia-Care's other ingredients are listed by INS number.
Pre-diabetes
Blood sugar levels that are higher than normal but below the diabetes range, as diagnosed by a doctor.
RDA
Recommended Dietary Allowance: the daily intake of a nutrient recommended by health authorities.
Type II diabetes
A long-term condition that affects how the body regulates blood sugar, diagnosed and managed by a doctor.
Vegetarian mark
The green dot inside a green square, used on Indian food packs to show a product is vegetarian.
Vitamin B1
Thiamine. Dia-Care contains 1.2 mg per capsule (85.71% RDA).
Vitamin B12
Cobalamin. Dia-Care contains 1 mcg per capsule (45.45% RDA).
Vitamin B2
Riboflavin. Dia-Care contains 1.4 mg per capsule (70.00% RDA).
Vitamin B6
Dia-Care contains 2 mg per capsule.
Vitamin C
Ascorbic acid. Dia-Care contains 40 mg per capsule (50.00% RDA).
Vitamin E
Dia-Care contains 3.5 IU per capsule, as tocopherol acetate (35.00% RDA).
Zinc
An essential mineral. Dia-Care contains 12 mg per capsule, from zinc sulphate (70.59% RDA).
